Wow, this is great, but so horrible. Greedy companies always tear great homebrew communities apart with their prices on things. I hope there is still a way to get this running on the next iphone. I wouldn't want the next gen iphone users to wait as long as we did.

Go right ahead...I'm sure plenty of people would use it :) Especially the nor-only version.

(When I say "just drop it in", I'm directing more at everyone like you who has learned how all these pieces fit together :) )

No, it doesn't recognize the 2G as a valid device.
You could easily snatch the ramdisk it creates for a 1G though from your temp files, gut it, insert the patched images created by PwnageTool or XPwn into /nor, then resign it using the correct ramdisk key/IV.

You would then send 0wnboot (or something similiar), execute it, then either send the ramdisk to the device in DFU mode (using iRecovery [or again, something similar], execute "ramdisk", send the patched kernel, then "bootx"), or throw it into a minimal IPSW consisting of the ramdisk and typical boot images such as iBoot.
You can then restore to this IPSW; when you see the Pwnapple guy, you can unplug your iPod and force quit iTunes.

This exploit is forever useable on all existing iPod Touch 2G devices. It takes a tiny bit of massage for each new firmware, but the exploit itself is set in stone.
