Now that AT&T has made the tiered plans, how will they charge unlimited users that are grandfathered in?

Will it be an additional $20 fee like the high end plan, or will they be able to continue doing it as before without paying the extra fee?

My girlfriend just got an iPhone, and has been tethering at work since her boss took wifi away for no other reason than she didn't like having the router plugged in. Not kidding.

If you want "Offical AT&T" tethering you have to downgrade to on of the new data plans. Im not sure if AT&T can detect the "unoffical" tethering now because it does change a setting in the iPhone.

That's what I was curious about. It seems a bit unfair for AT&T to now decide how data is used for users that have had contracts with them in the past.

    Welcome to AT&T.

I'd imagine they would force you to go to one of the newer plans.

.....And then pay more to tether with the limited data you're already paying for.

The $20 they charge for tethering is pure BS! You dont get any "extra" data for tethering, you use your limited plan's data. AT&T is just charging you because they are greedy, not because you get more data, not because it will be a drag on their network, but just for the privileged of using the data you have already paid for.

I don't think any tethering applications work on 4.0 at the moment.

I'd wait for somebody to raise hell about AT&T charging them for it.
