I've been away from the jailbreaking community for awhile, as I've been running my iPhone on stock 2.2 and 2.2.1 since they've been out. What's all this talk about "tethered" and "un-tethered" jailbreaks? I can't seem to find out what it means exactly. Can someone explain it easily?

Those are obsolete now actually. They were "building blocks" to the actual untethered jailbreak. Tethered meant that you needed a computer and would loose the jailbreak after shutting off your iPod.

Tethered means that when ever you have to reboot you have to connect to a computer to do it, or else it won't boot.
Untethered mean that you don't have to.

Untethered is the way to go.
