I don't see why people see it necessary to tell the person you reported them. I have seen this multiple times and see it as unnecessary. In the past it has caused people to make hate threads throwing direspectful remarks at the person who reported them. Surely saying you reported them makes the situation worse or maybe I am being stupid, can anyone tell me why they do it? I think it should stop, or maybe it's just ne. Like the mods say, report and move on

Sorry. I am an offender. It's just one of those things where I feel I should tell them that what they're doing is wrong, I guess I should just leave it up to the mods.

I don't know why I do it as well? Maybe to tell others that they've already been reported? I dunno really?

well like abcmasj says in his signature "even if you think something has been reported, report it anyways." or something like that. i never got it either. i always thought it was just to tell the mods that it was them who filed the report. but i dunno

But telling the OP the sooner that they did something against the rules the better.

The mods aren't always there straight away.

OK I was talking with thechungster about this before, well related to it.

I told the person that what they were doing was illegal, they then edited their post. Chungster said this "If someone edits their post it kinda helps. They've been taught that illegal discussions are not allowed, and have kinda learnt their lesson"

So in a way saying that you've reported them can help in some situations.

First of all, reporting someone is not an instant slap on the wrist. It only notifies the Mods that a thread needs looking into. Telling someone that you reported them gives them the opportunity to correct their mistake before a mod sees it. Sure you can tell someone that what they are doing is against the rules but this is the internet. 90% of the time that will be met with a "stfu noob. I i5 1337h4X" or some other e-thug BS. The threat of impending punishment is more effective, especially when the site is as good at backing it up as this one.
