I am going to have to replace my battery soon. Is it possible to take the back off because the metal looks welded.

You can either try to seperate the screen from the back by yourself, or invest 10 bucks and but a screen removal tool.

The screen will come off, then giving you access to the battery.

Although, the 3G IS coming out soon....

It would melt the components of the iPod. Its clipped on.

Also, its impossible to weld it how it closes like that.
