I restored my JB 2.2.1 iPod touch 2g to 3.0...got rid of the prior jailbreak...and jailbroke 3.0 with the windows redsn0w tool...after installing terminal and 2 other packages in cydia, was greeted with a msg stating "remove some images/music low disk space" and found that my system area was little over 90% full while the user area was completely empty....DFUd and reverted back to 3.0 and jailbroke again....same problem: Total size 500mb Used 447mb Avail 47mb 90% full

anybody else noticing this or did I mess something up?

I have the same problem, but I checked my space in iTunes.
I'm sure it's safe to just ignore it as it's probably a small cydia bug.
iTunes says I have more than enough space.

cydia should automatically move apps for you, at least thats what I thought it did on 2.0

it is normal to have tht much of "other". All of tht "other" data is the ipod's firmware.

You should do a clean restore before you jailbreak because it will delete all files. when you jailbreak without restoring, sometimes all that data become inaccessible to the user. Just restore and re-jailbreak.
