I've read many times that holding downt the home button for ten seconds closes all apps, but after doing this and looking in sys.info there still seems to be apps running, i.e. music player or games. What gives?

It just refreshes everything, and makes your iPod go faster, it doesn't delete anything, just exits out of the program your running.

holding home for approx. 6 seconds hard-quits the currently running app

it's not an `exit`, it's `quit`, and it sends the kill command
