My entire library is set up on my iTunes 9.1.1 (Installed on Windows), and I did the iOS 4 upgrade (successfully) with an OSX VM.
Restoring the backup I made before was good for my contacts, settings, what not, but naturally my music and applications were not restored.
Moving my entire library to the OSX VM would be painfully slowly, and syncing over SMB shares is for some reason impossible, so I wonder if there is any way to sync my iPhone with the Windows based iTunes, after upgrading.
I imagine the restriction is software based alone, and could be circumvented, but I could be wrong.
    Has anyone researched this yet?

No and no, it would be a waste of time, since the version for windows is coming out soon.

I'll agree that if it isn't purely a software restriction bound to version, than yea, it probably is a waste of time.
But for all I know (and I'll admit to not knowing much), it could just be a version thingie that could be spoofed without much trouble, no?
I doubt Apple made changes to the protocol that are too massive to easily bypass.

Wait it out... If you didn't have a Mac, it was kind of a dumb idea to update... Especially knowing there was no way to sync it. No one will create a tweak that will become useless in 10 days. sorry.

Why don't you just use the VM to sync your music? Just connect to the windows machine using the "Connect to Server..." menu item on the mac? That's the best way to sync music between machines.

In eight days you'll get all the OS 4.0 you could possibly imagine.

I doubt you can't wait for that "long".
