I just bought a laptop for college, so I want to be able to sync my ipod with my laptop instead of my desktop. Is there any way I can go about doing this without losing all my application data? I already have the apps transferred over to my laptop, but it keeps telling me that if I sync my ipod to this laptop then I'll lose all my save data.

Copy your whole iTunes library to either an external HDD, thumb drive, or a DVD (4.7GB) and put that back onto your laptop. Make sure you're copying your iTunes folder from your music folder on your desktop, and then into the music folder on your laptop. That should take care of EVERYTHING you have in iTunes (apps, music, videos, ect)

Or say ok to erase then unplug you iPod right after it say syncing <iPod's Name> then it will think it is synced with the new iTunes and you then can sync apps and music and videos and books and podcasts and apps and books and music. Ok so you get the point.

That method doesn't seem safe, but if it works it works.

Just copy your ipods backups from your desktop computer and then sync the apps on, and restore from the backup and your game saves will be back.

I"ve got a new computer and I'm worried about losing my actual app data when I sync to the new laptop. ie. All my docs2go and good reader files.

Is there anyway to guarantee not losing these?

when you sync to another PC it wipes the iDevice clean of all information.
And you will get a warning message when you try to sync.

Maybe you can try this way.
For windows 7 users, you'll need to copy the following directories and their contents from the old PC to the new PC:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\Music\iTunes
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences\
the "USERNAME" is the user's account name.
Or you can try a third-party tool to help you get the job done.
