I recently have had problems with my ipod touch,
my ipod syncs up to the point "Backing up ipod" but around half way through it freezes then restarts. I cannot successfully sync my ipod due to this malfunction.
I have tried using different USB ports and using different cables. I have searched through threads for hours without any success. What are my options? apart from restoring the ipod.

thanks in advance for any help given.

    Device:
    iPhone 4S (Black)
Nothing else you CAN do but to restore i'm afraid...

Well first off back everything up from the /app and /var/root/(both Media and Library)
    RESTORE
    then put everything back
    Then you won't lose anything

if anyone experiences the problem i had or any problem involving syncing i recommend you delete the iTunes_Contol folder via ssh as the ipod simply looses any itunes media and all of the itunes media on your computer can easily be resynced back onto your iPOT/iphone without any loss of data outside this folder
