Why do you not want to use iTunes for that?
It's the easiest application for music ever...

And isn't it handy that the time and date changes automatic?

Well, if the time on your computer is correct and you chose the right country for your clock it should adjust itself to the exact time....

And I'm not sure I understand your second question...

    Ipod touch time knocks out

I have the same problem- Windows XP, itunes 7.5, ipod touch version 1.1.2, when I synch across on my USB 2 cable, it knocks the time and date to some random one. VERY frutsrating, especially as I use the diary so the alarms gets knocked out.

    HHHEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!

this should not happen if you have the locale setup correctly along with the timezone on the PC and the iPod.... if they are set differently then the issue you are descibing will be the end result

    Got it!

Found the answer! It is to with hibernating the pc with itunes open. Make sure it is closed before you hibernate- so you synch with a 'fresh' version- job done, no issues.

Few- that was really pissing me off!
