As many of you know, the sync cables Apple provides us with are, well frankly, sh*t. Mine sometimes goes on and off unless it's in the right position, and while restoring my iPod it apparently went off. My iPod is now stuck constantly restoring or in restoration mode. Force reboot, DFU, all have been tried in vain. The progress bar on both the iPod and my computer both are stuck at the VERY end of the process, but it can't make that final leap. Am I screwed?

No I did not. I previously had it, but I removed it a while back because I realized it did not work with the 4th Gen Touch.

So you removed it from your computer? Also try another computer.

ive never had a problem with a sync cable.
    had a 2G for 2 years. now have a 4G. no problems.

anyways, try a different computer and see what happens.

Really? Both my current one (that caused this mess) and my old one are both terrible. the first one from my 2g completely frayed, the part that plugs into the ipod frayed away from the cable.

Unfortunately the rest of the computers in my house are on Ubuntu. I am the only one in my household running Windows.

Hey guys, I got a warning this time: The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604).

Any idea how to fix it? It gives some recommendations on Apple, but none work
