Hey, not many weeks ago I bought an iPod touch (the 1st gen) and had my friend jailbreak it once...

When it was jailbroken I tried installing some stuff from installer.... it failed pretty much... most of the things "couldn't be found" or something, as if the packages didn't exist. I also tried installing some JB apps to change my theme but none of it worked at all

So I restored my iPod and it's been that way for a week or so...

Now that I've found this forum with a LOT of guides and whatnot (though the forum is a bit hard to navigate) I wanna try jailbreak my 2.1 again..

The question as well as the tl;dr comes here: Can I ALWAYS somehow restore my iPod touch if something goes wrong/messes up/bricks?

Yes you can always restore your iPod Touch to any firmware you want through iTunes, except when your iPod Touch gets bricked.

An iPod touch cannot be bricked.

    You can almost always restore.
    Sometimes it's just hard.

The exception is a hardware defect in case the OP was wondering.

Unless, if you physically break it

    Hardware = Physical.

Software issues will never be able to brick an iPod touch.

Sweet, makes me feel safe :d

    Now, 2 more questions:

    1. I have absolutely no idea what my 2.1 firmware is supposed to be called in /appdata/.../ipod software updates! I see these 3:

-iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw (but that's probably some old restore I made?)
    -iPod_1.1.5.ipsw
    -iPod_26.1.1.3.ipsw

    2. People seem to hate enourmosly on installer.app because it's buggy and unstable? Should I remove it instantly to prevent bugs taking over my ipod?

Hmm, let's go with the one that says 2.1.

    iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw

No, just don't use Installer. Use Cydia instead.
