I don't think there is an easy way to remove cydia. I never had any problem with it and the good thing is that it will replace the broken BSD package. Then you can use some function of the terminal that didn't work before. But it is true that a majority of the package available in cydia are for command line use in the terminal.

changing alpine password will definitely crash springboard except if you installed cydia. Make it mine, to change the carrier name also work with cydia....

Cydia is a legitimate package manager, unlike Installer.

If you've ever used any sort of Debian Linux you have aptitude, which is what Cydia uses.

not through installer but through ftp. installer will say its installed but its not. log in to ftp(cuteftp) and delete in the applications folder.

Why do you think its crap? you don't have to use it instead of Installer, use it in conjunction with installer. At this point in time it has much fewer applications but what it does have is a much better package of unix utilities that are open source and should ultimately lead to better apps. Not to mention the packager doesn't crash or freeze, and installs much faster. What is it that you are frustrated by?

I guess I'm just not used to it, and I just want to get rid of it without having to restore. It says to use apt-get, how do I get that?
