anyone know why/how to get rid of those black bars above/below the volume slider-groove thing (besides including the bottom bar in my slider-groove thing, i'll do that if i have to but i don't see it being a quick and easy thing to do)

Well put it on as an attachment. I think it could be fairly easy though really can't explain how to do it.

i have no idea. i think i recall the same thing on a music theme i was making for my theme, but i just made the volume bar the normal size (i was intending on making it smaller, kinda like you have it) and it worked fine.

Does it happen only when watching a video?

nah on the music player too, it's just easier to see on a white background

i think the problem is you can't have transparency in the volumefill, or that there's a black image somewhere that goes behind the volumefill

    isn't it just an overlay?

if so you can make it transparent!

I guess you could try putting 1% opacity instead of full transparent, like with the clock bar on the lockscreen.
