This is my friends ipod and he gave it to me because it wouldn't turn on..so now i'm trying to fix it.

Ok so first when i got it, it wouldn't even turn on so I left it charging and after 45 minutes it finally turned on but then i charged it for a whole day and it was still on red battery, what should I do?

    Did it boot?

Or was it on the "I won't turn on until I have 5% battery" screen?

It's stuck on that, and won't go to the main screen or the computer won't read it

According to apple's documentations, it isn't safe to DFU when in red battery mode.

Weird that it's taking this long... leave it overnight.

However, before that, see if a hard reset does anything (hold down home and power till boot, probably won't do anything...)

EDIT: plug it in! (Why did you unplug it? There's no reason to!)

    sleep + home button?

if yes, then yeah I already did

    EDIT:
This is what I did for it for the computer to read it but it got an error after like 10 seconds of scanning it on itunes.
    1. Hold Sleep and Home until it went off
    2. Kept holding home and the screen went on (got bright) and went back off when it got the error

    oh.

    is the device currently jailbroken?
if it isn't, take it to apple.

wait, even if it IS, you can take it to apple if you really have to.
