You have to make it ra1n once again to boot a 3G. The first time it ra1ns it only jailbreaks it, and as it is a tethered jailbreak, it does not boot!

Well you've done something wrong. I've used blackra1n 4 iPod's, all different gens and sizes, and it's worked perfectly every time.

Make sure you have the right firmware
    Close iTunes
    Plug Ipod in
    Click 'make it ra1n'
    Wait.
    If it doesn't reboot
    Click 'make it ra1n' again
    Done.
