    Hello all,

I am having huge troubles with my Ipod touch first generation.
I just bought it off my friend, so I don't know much about the unit.

When I received it my friend said she was restoring the ipod to its original settings. On the screen was a loading bar, so I waited for about an hour until it was finished resetting.

Now all that shows up when I start it up is a USB cable telling me to connect it to Itunes. So I connected it to my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit pc and I get this error message. "USB Device not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

I have tried EVERYTHING to get this working. I have uninstalled itunes twice, I have tried it on three different computers, mine, Vista and XP. With two different apple ipod cords, and I get the SAME message on EVERY computer.
I have tried to get into DFU mode, and I still get the same error. Itunes has never recognized my ipod.

In the device manager all that shows up is an unknown device with an exclamation mark. I have already tried to install all windows updates available but no dice.

This is really baffling me any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!
    -Steve

Get a new cable or try a different port. It's most likely the cable.

I just tried a third cable brand new from the box in every one of my USB ports. Still didn't work. Any other ideas?

LibUSB Also, refer to my signature to get out of recovery mode. If you have to, uninstall LibUSB and try again.

Hey I've been having this same problem I tried the LibUSB and it completely knocked out all my usb ports I'm thinking it's something else entirely maybe something to do in the Ipod. I've alsot tried going through device manager and attempting to install the drivers manually from the itunes directory, it give me the error message that the drivers aren't designed for that device.

    1. Try mac (use friends if you don't have access to one)
    2. If the mac can't then use recboot if it is in recovery mode

Try holding the home and sleep button for 30 seconds. If that doesn't work then try going into DFU mode.

    DFU Mode is Achieved by:
    Holding Sleep for 3 seconds
then without releasing the Sleep button,
Hold the Home button for 10 seconds.
then release the Sleep button and,
Hold the Home button for about 15 seconds.
