    Hi,
my ipod touch 1st gen (3.0) is behaving stragely when syncing it with iTunes (8.2.1.6):
When trying to sync, iTunes transfers up to about 20-25 items, then the syncing process terminates and the error message "The disk could not be read from or written to" displays. Yet, I was able to manually transfer a couple of albums one at a time. (After having sent one album, I always have to restart iTunes and repeat the procedure).
Thus, the iPod seems to have problems receiving large amounts of data while being able to handle small ones.
I bought a new USB cable today, but the same problems still occur.

Any ideas? Help would be very appreciated.

    Regards

When it first starts syncing, press the little X in iTunes.
Then, right click your iPod and press backup and wait for it to backup.

Now unplug it, and plug it back in, and it shouldnt be having any problems.

    hi AppleCentral®,

thanks for your quick reply. I followed your instructions but still get the same error message after a couple of synced songs/videos.
Aditionally, iTunes produced an unknown error (13014), without really affecting the sync (problem occured only while transfering videos).
I also remember having problems restoring the device. After about 20 failed attempts (unknown error 14), the iPod finally restored successfully. Maybe this two problems are related in some way?

You should google the iTunes errors and see if anyone else has the problem.

    Try this:

Go to Add or Remove Programs
    Uninstall The Following:

    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Bonjour
    -iTunes
    -QuickTime

Now go here and download and reinstall iTunes.
    Restart your computer after.

Now open iTunes and replugin (I cant spell) your iPod.
    See if it works.

I had a very similar problem and did many different steps to try and get rid of it, so I can't narrow it down to just one thing to fix it. First off make sure if your on vista your on at least service pack 2. Restart iTunes and try it, if it still does the same thing then disable and close all firewalls you have running and restart iTunes once more and try again. If that worked then the problem would be a firewall. I had this problem even after allowing everything in my settings that was apple/ipod related, but after i closed it it seemed to work

    I wouldnt reccomend Vista.

Although syncing isnt much of a problem, DFU Mode and LibUSB are huge issues
