About 30min ago my notebook which is only about four month old crashed while I did some non-processor-intensive stuff under Linux. Suddenly the screen went black (display did not deactivate however) and for about 2sec you could hear a high-pitched screaking noise from the notebook. Nothing was responding anymore. After about 10sec the notebook powered down on itself while I still was trying to figure out what happend. I pressed the power button and the notebook booted up just fine and everything seems to be ok. Never had anything like that before, but I heard that a harddisk crash can cause such a noise. Right now I am running a full bad blocks checks, but nothing has turned up so far. Since the notebook does not have an optical drive, the only mechanical parts are the harddisk and the fans. Any ideas?
