There's something about my jailbroken iPod Touch (3.1.2) that annoys me, and am wondering if there's a fix for it.

I downloaded SBSettings, which shows me how much memory is free and allows me to clear it to make space if I'm running low.

When I first jailbroke, It said

    Storage: 91 MB on / 3500 MB on /var

    Now, it says:

    Storage: 73 MB on / 3500MB /var

Some stuff that I'm downloading seems to be taking up the maximum available app memory (91mb to 73mb). Since I have 3.5GB of free space on my ipod, is there any way to allocate some of that to application memory. For example, make the free space 3400MB and make the max app memory 173MB.

Thanks for you help on this issue.

So, you want something like a Windows Page File on your iPod? I've never heard of anything like this. But, if it bothers you that much, You could buy a 32 gb or 64 gb iPod. They both have 256 Mb of RAM.

kinda... but where did the 18MB go (it went down from 91MB to 73MB). Also, is this "application memory" part of the 8GB hard drive space, or is it a separate RAM chip?

He's not talking about RAM, he's talking about the free space that Cydia/Rock/Icy uses to install packages to. Anything you download and install from those apps will take up that space.

    For example:

I have 51MB of free RAM, but 293 MB on / 1920 MB on /var

Mine goes the opposite way i REALLY don't understand it. Its been at 168 since i jailbroke 3.1.2 and the other one goes down. It used to say 168 MB on / 1200 MB on /var now it says 168 MB on / 1000 MB on /var. What does that mean?

    RAM - Random Access Memory

Your iPod/iPhone will store info there that it may RANDOMALY need. If you have more, you probly have done something on your iDevice that had 2 save things and vice versa

The 168 MB is the amount of space you have to store packages, the 1200-1000 MB is the space you have to store movies, songs, and apps. RAM has nothing to do with these, at all.
The reason you lost 200 MB of space could be that you downloaded some music, movies, etc. and those take up space.
