Does anybody know how to set a static ip for a virtual debian machine?

Heres what i've got in my etc/network/interfaces

#This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
#and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

    #The loopback network interface
    auto lo_
    iface lo inet loopback

    #the primary network interface
    allow-hotplug eth0
    iface eth0 inet dhcp

Change eth0 from using whatever DHCP client that comes with Debian to using whatever network configuration you want.

    ifconfig eth0 x.x.x.x netmask x.x.x.x

    add route gw x.x.x.x

Read the man pages on ifconfig and dhcpd (or whatever DHCP client you're using) and everything will make a lot more sense.
