When does one have occasion to turn it off?

I just pause the music, go into the homescreen and press standby. Saves loads of power and my battery lasts way longer between charges as it uses loads of power to shut down and restart IMO

the respring should take AT MOST 30 secs.

if not, you may wanna do some cleanup.

Respring for me takes about 15 seconds. Restart is about 30 seconds.

Yep, something on your ipod is messed up.

I also never turn it off though. And when jailbroken you can then check your uptime on it with the uptime command.
