Ok here is some more detailed instructions for mac users.

You need a Jailbreaked 1.1.3 Itouch and a network that your Itouch and Mac are connected to.

    Install from installer app:
    - Bsd subsystem 1.5
    - OpenSSH
    - AFPd 0.2

Download http://*file*beam*.com/9b773dc967733b61d4db9094011b1e00 and extract the folder to your harddrive ( remove the stars from the link)

In finder on your mac click the go menu and then click connect to server.
On the new window that shows up click browse.

Yous should see your ipod touch there connect with user: root password: alpine

Copy the file /Iphone Root FileSystem/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/SpringBoard from your iPod Touch to your machine to the sbpatch folder and rename it" SpringBoard.orig".

Open terminal and do "cd /Volumes/<hardrivename>/sbpatch/"
    then do "./sdelta3 SpringBoard.orig SpringBoard_patch.sd3 > SpringBoard"
and you will end up with a new file called "SpringBoard" in youre sbpatch folder

Replace the old SpringBoard file inside /Iphone Root FileSystem/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app folder (on your itouch) with the one you just patched.

login to your itouch with terminal "ssh root@itouch_ip_here" when it asks for password type "alpine"

    do "cd /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/"

do "chmod +x SpringBoard" to fix the permissions

restart youre itouch and everything should work

Thanks to the guy who made this patch

oh and If you messed around with your N45AP.plist file make sure you put the originals back where they belong. Otherwise your ipod will continue to look like a iphone.

    Good luck all

i did this yesterday... or rather 2am last night. Worked incredibly well. Just install the mail fix (which is also stickied) and everything is perfect.

so, for this, do you end up using the iphone 1.1.3 firmware, only with a patched springboard app?

nope - it was springboard.app - i copied it over onto my vista desktop (vmware fusion rocks btw...) and patched it over there without a hitch. moved it back onto my touch, chmod, reboot, and now i have super clean shiny 1.1.3 ipod touch with apps.

Ok, good news folks. I have updated the patch, and simplified the process. Please be sure you have SSH and the BSD subsytem installed.

Step 1: Download the updated patch from http://www.box.net/shared/bd3kbj9wcs

Step 2: Copy the file to your iPod Touch (using scp, or whatever other method you have in the past)

Step 3: Either SSH to the touch, or using something like the VT100 app, execute the following steps. (Note, some are having issues running this from anything other than via SSH, I would suggest SSH as this is the only method that I tested)

Step 4: (assuming the sbpatcher.tar.gz file is in /var/root, type the following commands (commands you enter will be in red):

    Code:
    # [COLOR="Red"]tar zxvf ~/sbpatcher.tar.gz[/COLOR]
    sbpatch/
    sbpatch/sb_patcher
    sbpatch/sb_unpatcher
    # [COLOR="Red"]cd sbpatch[/COLOR]
    # [COLOR="Red"]./sb_patcher[/COLOR]
Applying patch, please wait, this can take up to 30 seconds...

After the patch is complete, SpringBoard will be restarted. If you wish to revert back to the original SpringBoard, simply run the sb_unpatcher instead of sb_patcher.
