Developer: Ron Melkhior Price: Free!Release Date: May 2nd 2012 File Size: 19 KB Cydia Source: BigbossDirect Link: http://moreinfo.thebigboss.org/moreinfo/depiction.php?file=spotdictDpRequirements: iPhone and iPod only, iOS 5 or laterFor those familiar with Mac OS X in Spotlight search there is an option to look up a def·i·ni·tion in a snap! SpotDict, a simple tweak adds a button to Spotlight search on the homescreen. Type in a word like you'd normally do and instead tap the 'book' to be taken to the definition of said word. It utilizes iOS built-in dictionary that was included in iOS 5. You now have a pocket dictionary that is actually able to fit in your pocket! You no longer have to download App Store dictionaries saving you storage space. I am gobsmacked. SpotDict is available for free on the Bigboss repo and requires iOS 5 or later and does not support the iPad.
I was like awesome, then I see it's not for iPad. But nonetheless still looks great for quick words and makes spotlight more useful. Hopefully, they will update it for iPad later on cause i'd use it. What I've been doing is just type in a word in any textbox or anything and use define to check the word
The idea (and execution) is great—since 2010, I wished someone would make use of iOS's built-in dictionary as an actual dictionary to type words into—but the icon is fugly; it really doesn't fit into the system! The developer could use OSX's dictionary icon, I guess.
Yeah. When I first saw iOS 5 with the dictionary, I thought it would actually have a App dedicated to it. But nope it wasn't.
You should have seen the icon before they updated it today... That looked worse than fuggly. This one looks better in comparison It's a step up, but not perfect.
Thank you so much for telling me about the update! I was referring to the first version before and you're right: in comparison, the new icon actually looks somewhat decent, even though it's a bit off-center.
