Hey guys, I noticed / read on Touch Arcade that the game Space Monkey changed from a paid game to a free, ad-supported one. Here's the kicker: they didn't make a new version... they merely updated the old, paid version! As a result, if you paid for it at full price ($4) or cheaply ($.99) -- you're now being served ads. Now, I can understand why a developer would go to an ad-supported model. If you supply a free game, and it does well, you'd end up making a *lot* more in ad money then you would selling it for 99 cents. It's pretty lucrative. But what about the people that already paid to play? They're getting screwed in this case. I got my copy in a free promotion, but I deleted it this morning after I heard the news. I rated it 1 star, out of protest... and in sympathy for the people that paid $4, only to get ads. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind ad-supported apps. But what I do mind is a bait-and-switch from paid to ads.
