Are they all the same? If not, can you rank them from best to least and how much better it is?

Can you throw all iphones in the list too?

    Thanks.

1st gen, used a not so good audio hardware.

So you will hear alot of complains from 1st gen user saying the sound quality is as good as they expected.

2nd and 3rd gen ipod touchs use the same audio hardware. In which for me i cant really hear anything displeasing.

But 2nd and third gen sound quality from what i know is far superior than 1st gen.

I have a 3rd gen and im really happy with the results.

    Iphones i have no clue.

    I have a 1G iPod, 3g iPhone, and 3GS

all seem to have the same quality (with the default iPhone headphones)

Im sorry but from me experience, the 1st generation sounds so horrible. After using my brothers ipod touch 1g, i felt it right there and then. This is coming from someone thats been using the 2nd generation(my 2g broke 2 month ago). Anyways, when i say "felt it" i really did felt it. It was hurting my ears!>_< at almost max volume, because if its low i cant hear any specific instruments..hell, even when its high. The first generation ipod touch just sounds bad.

PS. The ipod touch 2g speakers sounds kinda bad too. The psp 2000 speakers sounds better(never compared it with other psp's)

Wouldn't it be all in the head phones?

Nah, the device also have something to do with it. I try the same crappy ipod headphones on both the 1st and 2nd generation touch and the first generation still sounded bad.

Maybe it was the bitrate. Have you tried playing the SAME files on both 1G and 2G ?

PS: I wouldn't suggest listening to music on the iPhone. Actually any phone at all.

Dude, I plugged mine into the car, and the bass ripped so bad, I stick to my Zune when listening in the car.
