Why are songs $1.29 now instead of $0.99?

It's because they are DRM free. That was the deal with the recrod companies to allow that. However the $1.29 song sales are a huge disappointment right now and sales are low.

There are also now three tiers of pricing, all DRM-free.

    $0.69, $0.99, and $1.29.

Even Lenard Nimoy's(Spock) fine attempt at singing is $.99 so $.69 must be really awful.
