I may not be the most tech savvy person in the world, but I'm pretty good with knowing if I have Wi-fi or not.

At my campus, all of the students receive free wifi. I know how to configure it and set the wi-fi, and I get the 3 little bars to represent a strong connection.

Yet, everytime I check my mail I get the same old "Cannot connect to mail server."

    I don't know why I can't? I'm connected to Wi-fi??

This has been a big issue with 2.2 it seems, but I really don't want to go back to 2.1.

Is there a reason for this at all? If my ipod is connected to wi-fi (3 bars), why can't I connect to my mail server (which always connects when I'm say at home with my wi-fi?)

Are you jailbroken? If you are, try the mail fix in Cydia. If not, is your account set up correctly?

i have had this same problem with my schools routers(a middle school)
it says the same thing but i thought that it was because the school blocks some websites and proxys so maybe the mail was using a server that the school doesn't like?(correct me if im wrong)

I know at my campus, its wifi is secured with a password. in order to use its wifi, i have to open up safari and it will take me to a log in screen where i put in my student login and password and then i gain access to wifi. perhaps its the same for you?

Nah it's not because I've gotten wifi before without any problems.

It's just like at some random times... I cannot send an email although I have 3 bars. "Unable to connect to mail server"

I can't check the stock market. "error retrieving information"

    It's just weird...

it could be a proxy, or a block..
This happens at my school, where I can join it, but cant "use" it.
