I just bought an iTouch 32gb 2g from my friend for $120. I've never owned one before but I want to jailbreak it. The software version of it right now is 2.2.1 and I was just wondering if anyone had any good advice on what I should do. Should I upgrade to the latest version and then jailbreak or leave it as is? Thanks for reading.

you wont be able to get any apps that run on that unless their makers abandoned them on the app store, you can upgrade to 3.x.x for $10(unless they got ride of that for 4.0 being free) or get 4.0 for free, 2g touches are pwned for life so you can JB it and enable the wallpapers and multitasking.

2g touch does have a JB for 4.0 check the forums.

Only MB 2G models can jailbreak. Probably can assume the ipod is an MB model (since you said 2G 32GB not 3G 32GB). But just had to throw that out there.

So I should stay at 2.2.1 and jailbreak? And do you mean "pwned for life" as a good thing or bad thing?

No, you'll miss out on a ton of features. It's a good thing, meaning you can always jailbreak no matter what.

I assume you want me to upgrade to 4.0 and JB?

I want you to do what you want. It's your choice. Just really make sure you have a MB model.

I'd rather be told the best thing to do from someone who knows a lot about this stuff. I don't even know what you mean by MB model. I just want my ipod to be able to do the latest and greatest things but also be able to run homebrew.

To see if you iPod is an MB model, Open settings, tap general, tap about, then scroll down to "model" if it starts with MB you can jailbreak 4.0
