So you have just jailbroken your idevice, now what. Well if your a first time user, this should be helpful. Jailbreak: A software that allows an exploit to be used to allow unapproved 3rd party apps to be installed, or access root. When they get released: Well jailbreaks are not released very often, why you say? Because Apple will patch the exploit they use, they basically use the jailbreak developers to find the exploits and then they patch it. Yes, Apple also waits for the jailbreaks too! Every jailbreak released is one less found. Jailbreaks are rarely discovered so are held on too carefully. Carrier Unlock: Normally on an iphone, you can only use AT&T. With a carrier unlock, you can use another sim card, like T-Mobile. Yes, you could essentially use Verizon on your iphone.......if they had a sim card. Cydia: Basically the jailbroken version of the appstore on a massive amount of roids. Also there is Rock and Icy, but unfortunatley no installer, which all trully miss. Safety: Many things are recommended for people who want to jailbreak, but if the person doesnt know what they are doing, it could be harmful. I recommend these few apps/tweaks to help undo what could possibly go wrong with your idevice: Terminal: An app that allows commands to be input directly from the idevice. It can potentially undo damage, or even reinstall cydia if it keeps crashing. SBSettings: Mainly a tool used to access settings anywhere on the springboard, but has the respring feature, which does solve some problems. OpenSSH/OpenSSH toggle: This is more of a tweak. it allows the user to access the files of the idevice. it can undo a majority of things, from removing an object out of safemode, to even getting past the passcode lock required if you need to restore. Backing up SHSH Blobs: Many ways to do this. Basically if the user restores to a firmware that nulls a jailbreak, it can allow the user to downgrade. Again many ways to do this. gunzmaiet wrote great tutorail on how. http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276978&highlight=Ecids Like he said i recommend the first method, not only because its the easiest, but because now you dont have to press the "make my life easier button", saurik is automatically doing it. How to use Cydia: Cydia was develpoed by Jay Freeman (Saurik) it can download many apps and tweaks. Now, there is a bottom bar, that has 'changes'. These are updates to for the install packages you have. Then there is "manage". It displays 3 sections called "Packages" "Sources" and "Storage". "Packages" just simply displays the things you have installed. "Sources" shows the sources you have. "Sources" or "Repos/Repositories" are the places that hosts certain packages. Certain apps arent on the standard sources on cydia, so the source that they are actually on must be added. Now there is a "Search" feature. All it does is simply allo...... do i really need to explain this? What do you get? Now a days pretty much anything can be accomplished with a jailbreak. Ya i said it, pretty much anything you want you can get on your idevice when you jailbreak it. spoonforknife had a few things on what you get, (theres another thread that has more but i cant find it): http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125363 So does Sarcasm Siempre: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130304 What are you talking about? Well there are different jailbreaks that occur: Milesneptune has a good explanation of them: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299271&highlight=Types jailbreaks The Dev Team: A group of jailbreakers: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ Anything else i should i add? Comment below! ill make this the jailbreak general info page.
