My thoughts? Overhyped, way overhyped, like almost any Apple product (that isn't to say it isn't a much needed update.).
Honestly, Apple said push was coming in 2.x, they didn't specify who you can argue, but when you say its coming, you assume it's coming for everyone. They gave a timeline of sometime end of last year, so I do not consider Push notifications to be "new" just "late."
So that leaves "Spotlight" and "Copy & Paste" the only two real features to the OS itself, which should have been there in 1.x, whenever iPod Touches got the Apps of the iPhone.
You can argue that the APIs are new, and I will agree, this makes 3.0 worth it. All those APIs for developers. However, some of the important ones, like music integration into apps, and Maps being available should have been in there when the App store opened, that's just like logic when you think about it. "oh wouldn't it be cool to show the music we're listening to as IM people?" -or- things like Urbanspoon just being able to use Maps right in it. Those applications could have benefited way earlier if those were in there.
So, am I exicted for 3.0? Yeah I am. Am I impressed? No I'm not.
