Wouldn't it be possible to use it as a wiimote via Bluetooth?
Because the iPhone 4 accelerometer is the same as the one in the WiiMote, and the 3-axis gyro is also the one in Wii Motion plus, so...

Wiimote also has an IR Sensor on the tip of it, iPod touch, does not.

. The Wiimote has an infrared camera that tracks it's position. You could probably emulate the accelerometer part, but I can't imagine it being that useful.

there's a good number of Wii Games that dont require you to point the WiiMote at the screen. Like all the games in Wii Sports. Wii Sports Resort is a little different since some games require you to point at the screen before starting..

Well, like I said, it's probably possible, but I can't imagine it being that useful. The Wiimote is ergonomic and the iPod isnt. It's just not that comfortable to hold it like that.

The touch has always had an accelerometer.

There's an accessory for the iPhone/iPod Touch that allows you to use infared output. It was made to be used as a remote control for a television, but it could be repurposed.

Not for this. The Wiimote detects IR from the misnamed "sensor bar", not emit it.

Yeah I wonder if you could use it for games like New Super Mario Bros. where pointing isn't required. This is an interesting idea...

Why would you want to do this?
