First question I want to ask is can it use the latest firmware? (3.1.2) ?

Im poor as hell and didnt want to pay full price for a 3G (I paid 132.50 for just the phone nothing else)

    To the original poster:
Yeah, those look like stuck pixels. I think I found a home-brew fix for that, do what you want but I usually search this stuff up in YouTube. Try searching this: "how to fix stuck pixels in iphone" mess around with the wording and voila, you'll be fixed in no time, hopefully.

As or the firmware, if you google "Felixburns" you can find a free download for the 3.1.3 firmware (The latest one). I'm not sure, I think if you do it through iTunes you need to pay. This method is free, and then you don't need to pay for the next updates through iTunes, unless 4.0 comes out.

Just download the one for your generation of iPhone, save it to desktop and then plug your iPhone in, go to iTunes hold SHIFT and press "restore" navigate to your desktop and double click the firmware... Give it some time.. Voila, your set!

    Hope this actually helped!

I think that link is actually allowed because 3.1.3 was a free update. You can also click "Download Only" in iTunes when it prompts you to update.
