If you notice a very noticeable difference, then I would be inclined to say 'yes, they have improved the SQ.'

Just kidding. I have been researching this on the web for any conclusive answer too and although there are responses in both direction, I would say that it is weighted towards the side that there has been a marked improvement from 1G but I'm not sure how conclusive, nor how much compared to 2G. Sorry, that's all that I can tell you as I am still waiting for the arrival of my 3G.

I used to have a 2G and in my opinion the 3G certainly has better sound quality.

I would have to say yes, the highs are a lot clearer, and less melded with the mid-tones, and the lower bass isn't nearly as ringy as it was in my 2G I had.

I think the sound is BAD! My buddy has the new Ipod Nano with Dr.Dre headphones and I listened to his Nano and then my Touch and the difference is like night and day. His Nano definitely sounds a lot better than my Touch.I even load my songs at the higher bitrate(256) and there is still a world of difference.I was really disappointed in the sound. My Creative Zen that I used to have sounds better than my Touch(Gen.3)

Ah, well than your sound ship may be bad. If it's that bad I would suggest returning it...
