Is it safe to assume we are "Pwned for Life" with the 3g iPod Touch?

This vulnerability currently exists in 3.1.1/3.1... What about iPod Touches that are bought in the future with 3.2? Is the vulnerability "low" enough so that no software update can patch the hole?

I think so, Greenpois0n uses an exploit that's been kept secret for a while now, so it must be good if they hid it for so long

I'm sure apple will figure out how to patch it but the smart jailbreaking teams or w/e you call them will allows find a way to jailbreak it.

That's not necessarily true. Apple may eventually get something right and the Dev Teams won't be able to jailbreak the iPhone/iPod touch. It's unlikely, but it can happen.

There will always be a way to Jailbreak. Apple can not 'permanentaly patch' Jailbreaking.
Worst case senario though, is a Hardware Jailbreak, like the Pandora's Battery exploit in the PSP.

But nobody get frightened off, that is HIGHLY unlikely. I doubt Apple would set up a specific piece of hardware in the touch to prevent Jailbreaking. Waste of space and money. And even if they did, high chances say that we could circumvent that too with a software Jailbreak.

The iDevice will always be Jailbroken. It may just take time.

-P.S remember back in September-October '08 when two months in, there was still no break for the iPod Touch 2G, everyone was like...

    etc....

It took 6 months, but we did it !!!

    (Well, the Devs did it.)

So back to 'Pwned for Life?'

I believe the Greenp0ison exploit uses a similar variant to the 24kpwn exploit, meaning theres a high chance that yes, we are.

But if not, well.... See above...

@Scream, The only reason the jailbreak for the 2G took so long was that the Dev team made the mistake of giving an ETA for the iPhone 3G unlock. They had to work on that first. And also the Dev Team does jailbreak at a hardware level. Or else it would take even longer for every jailbreak than the couple days it does now with just finding the IV Keys.
