AIM or Palringo from the app store
or through the mail app. that works quite well too. search google for the various ways, cuase you'll find tutorials on how to set each of them up with it. Please Register or Log in to view images

Anyway to use the SMS function in the iPhone for the Touch to send SMS?
Oh...I'm not sure about that. I was messing around with it on my ipod the other day, but it just freezes before the message is sent.
------------------double post merged------------------I just found this thread:
You go into the mail app
And you send it to (Insert phone number here)@teleflip.com Iy'll send it to the phone for free and I believe they can send replies
Each carrier has their own .com
Eg. Verizon = 0000000000@VTEXT.com
AIM is a bit faster and has a better UI though.
Yeah, you can just ask whoever you are trying to text what carrier they are on, and email to that.
For example telus is firstname.lastname@example.org
It's worked great for me.
I'm sure you can just look it up somewhere.
Oh, and they can reply too.
Separate names with a comma.
