ok I have this Dell PC and its only a year old, and its already really slowing down. What could it be? I dont have any spyware or anything, I run my anti-virus scan every month.

you could try a mem upgrade, or just do a reinstall.

I've found that Windows XP gathers "garbage" over the months of use and slows down.
I managed to get a quite big speed boost by creating another user profile.

try funning a disc defrag like a million times that will clear it up. if u really want it better try wipeing teh hard drive and reinstalling Vista/ xp if it came w/ it in the box. u will loose EVERYTHING unless u back up to external hdd

it could be that its just outdated, but you can press ctrl+alt+delete and see how many processes you have running and if you have over 30-35 that usually means your computer is infected

get some more ram... other than that... go to start>>control panel>>add or remove programs then take out all the ones you dont need like games and trial software etc. but keep the ones that some programs use like java and quicktime and flash and windows media player and ie, etc

also go to start>>run>> type in msconfig

then go to the "startup" tab.... uncheck any programs you dont want running at startup. if you dont know what it is, dont uncheck it because you might need it.

other than that, get RAM...or just a new pc

    You mean this
    jk,
No you can speed it up by cleaning up/defragging the registry. You can clear stuff from your hard drive, defrag your hard drive, try to stop start-up programs which aren't necessary; (eg: AIM). You can also try re-installing your current main Operating system which is "slowing down" a lot.
