Simple Way To Getting Free Firmware 2.0 Onto Ipod (Download Firmware)

This is a simpler guide to getting the free firmware.
Make sure you have Itunes 7.7 or above!

VISIT THIS LINK TO SEE A TEXT FILE THAT HAS LINKS TO THE FIRMWARE...FILES ARE NOT POSTED OR POSTED ON ifans.com!!

Then once the download is complete place the firmware in the Ipod Software Update folder.
    Mac OS X :
    Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates
    or
    Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP :
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

    Windows Vista :
    C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Note : these locations are hidden by default in Windows
Check "Show hidden files and folders" in folder options

Once you place the new firmware into the Ipod Software Update Folder go to Itunes and plug your Ipod

Go to the Ipod Screen on Itunes and click "Check For Update" Or "Update" what ever it says.
*Note you may want to backup ipod before you do this*

If you have placed the Ipod firmware 2 that you just downloaded in the correct folder it will prompt you to install the firmware when you click update... Click yes or agree and it should start to install.

Let it install and you now have free firmware 2

I just completed this but some of my apps don't work, the ones that require the internet. When I connect to iTunes or App Store is says "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" and when connecting to Youtube is says "Cannot connect to Youtube"

    Any ideas?

I was already 5a345 and I couldn't restore it to the new one using check for update. I put the 5a347 firmware in the folder you specified and I instead navigated to it using SHIFT + RESTORE and I was able to update. Best tutorial so far. Thank you. You made things a lot more simpler and solved my 1403 error.

Who cares? If apple is stupid enough to allow this, then why not?
