I currently have 2 cases. One is the DLO one for the 2G Touch which is made out of silicon. The other case is by Body Glove which is made with hard plastic. Which case would protect my touch better from falls?

I would highly recommend a silicone cover. Cases are most likely to break if your phone/pod falls and get scratched and dirty. My silicone case has gone through a year of regular use and still looks very good with complete coverage and hasn't gone loose. I think they're also usually cheaper.

I never use silicon because if you ever plan on putting your iPod in your pocket, dust particles and other debri get inside the case and cause a lot of annoying little scratches on the back.

They both offer good protection but I think silicone looks a lot better. I hate hard plastic cases.

Plastic is fine as long as it doesn't bulk up the device too much. Silicone never bulks up the device, and is IMO a lot more comfortable to hold. Though, some plastic cases look a lot better than the silicone cases.

Well the idea IS that the case gets scratched, and not the iPod. Because cases are much cheaper than iPods.

There are only a couple of silicone cases that I personally really like and recommend.

Speck Pixelskin - No dust, no lint, not grippy, very very nice
Switcheasy Colors - pretty nice as well, not a lint catcher

But hard cases are much much easier to get in/out of the pocket than evan the smoothest silicone case

i think silicone protects more from falls.

to me it matters on the type of silicon. i have two for my 1g (black and white) and they are dust, and any other particle, resistant and they dont stick in pockets, even tighter pants.

hard cases absorb more of the impact when they are dropped
the case will come off worse than you ipod, but on the brighter side you will still have an ipod
silicon skins get sticky over time and are very annoying to get out of your pocket, they also let unwanted dust and stuff in.
    Hardcases are better
