What are "SHSH blobs" and do you really need them to downgrade a 4.0 to 3.12?

SHSH blobs is your ECID, which is your Exclusive Chip ID. Every device has a different ECID. When you try to get a Firmware, Apple signs it, to see if it is what they want you to be on. Apple cannot stop you from staying on one firmware, but they can stop your from Downgrading to previous firmware's. Because of this, if you try to Downgrade to 3.1.2, since you don't have your blobs, you will not be able to do it, as you cannot sign it.

Blobs not needed for 3g. Downgrade with help of recboot worked!! 3.1.3 runs like a champ!
