I have 2.2.1 firmware on my iPod touch 2G. Should I just jailbreak it now or update to 3.0 or 3.1.2 before jailbreaking?

All of my friends said 2.2.1 is not a good firmware to jailbreak, so I was just wondering this.

The only good thing about 2.2.1 is that it has LogoMe compatibility.

Other than that, get 3.1.2. Then use Blackra1n, the easiest Jailbreak ever. (other than jailbreakme.com)

Where do I get 3.1.2? On Apple store, it only has 3.1 only. Is 3.1.2 free after that?
