I'm on my senior year at highschool and need a laptop for college.

I was thinking on maybe getting a Macbook.
I have never owned a Mac before though, so I'm not familiar with how it works.

I really don't want a gaming computer, so graphics aren't that important. What I really need is a reliable, functional computer that get's the work done.

What does a Macbook has to offer to students like me?
Why should I get a Macbook over a notebook PC?

Edit: Money isn't that much of a problem right now, considering Christmas is coming, my parents can pay half the price and I have some money saved up.

    Convince me

Get whatever you're most comfortable with.

Macs are the most widely used in College, Microsoft Word is something I can see you needing in High School widely, which I think cost about $150, which is pretty reasonable. Macs are very battery-efficient, if that's an issue, and well, not so economical. But then again, you seem to be pretty mature and organized

, so It's worth it, as long as it doesn't get stolen and you keep good care of it.

EDIT: Why to get MacBook over notebook PC?

I don't have an answer to that, but if you're considering doing some graphical art, photoshop, or need any processing power, then you may want to really consider a Mac. However, if you're just in it for casual use, it's not worth the money.

I am speaking with experience; I have a MacBook, for home use only though.

I would, but as I stated on my first post, I have never owned a Mac, barely even used it, so I may not know what I'm missing.

    Thanks for the response!

I do use Photoshop from time to time, but nothing professional.
I might need to use it more frequently though, based on the career I'm pursuing.

Another point I forgot was compatibility, I need to be able to view/edit MS Office files. I'm aware there's a Mac version of Office, but not quite sure if it's exactly like the Windows version I'm used to.

    Thanks again!
