The 2g will obviously cost less but it will never be in the brand new condition that a 3g would. I cant make a decision

There aren't three generations of iPhones, FYI. There's the iPhone and the iPhone 3G.

    I know...
2g is for 2nd generation of wireless technology, which is edge. 3g is HSDPA. Im not an idiot. 2g is pretty much the general term when referring to the first generation iPhone

I went from the 2G up to the 3G and have not been that impressed.

If you're using AT+T you will pay to use the 3G. I used my 3G on a "normal" plan for maybe four hours before I had multiple emails and text messages from AT+T telling me that I would be charged for the 3G use.

The only feature that I really use on the 3G is the GPS stuff. It is kind of fun to play with and it saves me from having to carry a real GPS if I want to check something.

Not sure if that helps you, but I think a lot of it depends on what plan you want to use and if you want to pay for the 3G.
