Will this delete everything that is on the iphone? What should i do before i restore? btw i searched for a thread for this but only saw for 1.x and 2.x. Anyone give me some steps please

Not entirely sure, but I do not think so. Apple has stopped signing 3.1.2

Apple stopped signing for the 3gs and the 3rd gen iPod touch. So if you have a 3g you will be fine. And yes it will erase everything. Thats what a restore does.

He has a 3G iPhone! You can straight shift-restore to the 3.1.2 firmware without any problem. You can back up through iTunes before you do and back up your jailbreak stuff using aptbackup in Cydia if you need, though it's better to clean restore w/o a back up.

    Once on 3.1.2 you can jailbreak/unlock with either blackra1n & blacksn0w or redsn0w and ultrasn0w.

im staying away from aptbackup. Aptbackup is the reason why im planning to restore.
