I believe so. Although you will have to download the 2.1.1 firmware to run it, you won't have to downgrade.

No you cant downgrade. Or at least i cant and i have 2.2 5G77a with 2.2FW.
But i did successfully use irecovery to load 0wnboot (uses 2.1FW) so there
should be no problem when jailbreak is released.

I hope not because mine is the same. I am holding off on upgrading to the 2.2.1 software until I know how it will affect the jb.

You're fine. The iPod touch 2G jailbreak works at a lower level than Apple can update, so they can't patch it without releasing a whole new iPod.

ok... people really need to read, cause i've seen this b4... multiple times. ok...
    1) u don't need to downgrade. u honestly shouldn't downgrade.
    2) the jailbreak is a hardware exploit, not a firmware exploit. this doesn't mean u have to open up ur ipod, it just means that the exploit was found in the bootrom... which is a lower level than the firmware. so it doesn't matter what firmware u have. the only way that apple could fix this, is if they somehow fixed the exploits in another batch of 2g's and then released them (which i guess would make it the ipod 3g...), which is unlikely to happen... so don't worry about the firmware thing....

    and lastly,

    3) dont make ur thread titles swear words... it just makes u look dumb...
