Okay so my friends iPhone 3gs recently stopped working for him, he just bought a new phone. So he gave it to me. The big issue was that the thing wouldn't charge. So I opened up the iPhone and cleaned off the charging area with alcohol. The phone now accepted a charge. After leaving the iPhone on the charger overnight, I see that the amount of charge is still "in-the-red". I think maybe a restore will fix it, so I go through the restore process and restore my 3gs to 4.0.2 (not worried about jailbreak at this point, I also so have iPhone 3G). After the restore completed the iPhone went right back to the charging screen with a red sliver of charge. I let it charge for hours more and there have been no changes. Now in the last 4 hours I have been trying to restore again, but I get errors 2005, 9, 1600, and 1604 in iTunes. And now the iPhone seems to be connecting and disconnecting constantly.

Do any of you know whats wrong?
    Help would be greatfully appreciated...

If it's still under the Manufacturer's Warranty, go to the Apple Store and they'll replace it.

Took it to the Apple Store and they refused to help. Pricks.
But thanks for the input. I will sell the phone to someone who needs the parts such as the LCD/Digitizer.

    Why did they refuse service?

They blamed it on water damage.

You can drop a little bit of bleach into the earphone port to change the color of the water indicator to white.

Those errors are from faulty connection with the dock. See if you can get it replaced under warranty, otherwise, just replace the dock unit inside it. If after replacing the dock, it should restore and charge up...if it still doesn't hold a charge, the battery may need replacing.
