    hi!
i have my gmail account on the ipod touch, i can recieve emails without a problem, but whenever i try sending one (sitting right next to the router, so i have no problem with the signal) i get this massage: Cannot send mail - the connection to the outgoing server "smtp.gmail.com" failed.

    any help pls?
    thx in advance

You will probably need to add and smtp rule on your router to allow outgoing smtp (port 25) connections. A lot of firewalls will have this disabled by default as a lot of malware has built in mail send routines.

Also, I had to upgrade my BT Yahoo, account to actually get pop / smtp capability as the totally free version is web based only.

    Hope this helps.....

Also ensure your ISP allows direct access to the gmail smtp server. I have Cox and must use their smtp server for outgoing email.
