ok I'm not sure if this would be possible (I'm kinda a noob) but i was wondering if the ipt is equipped with the hardware to enable it to wirelessly send songs or files to other ipts without wifi like the zune. I know that is not currently able but maybe with a software update?

I think it would need Infrared, which I don't believe it has. Does the Zune use ifrared or wifi to do this?

no and i'm sure apple wouldn't want such a feature anyway... at least not without some kind of DRM that would keep people from sharing music so easily.

I think the zune probably uses Ad-Hoc wifi

I understand the Zune uses wifi, but limits the songs that were transfered to other Zunes to 3 plays or 3 days or somesuch. There are some hacks to get around that, but they require renaming music files and so on.

I don't yet know anyone else with an iTouch, but I'll agree it would sure be nice if you could tranfer files between them. I might get one for my wife if that were a feature.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the SendSong application was updated today, and there is an option when you tap a song called "Share Song." When I tap it, nothing happens. This is not for it to send in an email because there is another option for that.

If someone can look into this, that would be great.

It just showed an update today, and it didn't have that option before.

The short answer is that the Touch has the hardware but may or may not have the software. There is no reason that 2 Touches couldn't establish an Ad-Hoc Wifi connection and share data.

Apple probably doesn't want that since it opens the door to illegal copying of files from one iPod to another. They may not have the DRM implemented to limit song usage like the Zune does.

Okay, I looked into the new option in send song.

YOU CAN NOW SHARE A SONG FROM ONE IPOD TO ANOTHER (or iPhone, etc.)!!!!
This also works from an iPod to an iPhone. Both devices need to be unlocked and have the latest SendSong application.
