1.The iPad can switch between the web browser and pages easily. 2. Who writes a 10 page papaer on a tablet?!?!? 3. If you want to write a paper without the touch screen just use a bluetooth keyboard $100 a year is NOT a lot
savage24x I don't think you realize that you can't really compare the iPad and Android tablets. The iPad is a media consumption device. And while they are marketed like the iPad, Android tablets are much more like full blown computers, and are a better fit into the category of "laptop replacement". Some things that are wrong with the iPad as of now, that cripple its ability to be used as effectively as a "laptop replacement". 1.) The homescreen. There is so much space, yet all Apple did was add an extra row of icons? Android tablets give a much more realistic sense of "multitasking", since they provide resizable, interactive widgets on the homescreen. These widgets function more like open windows on a computer, instead of what they do on phones. If I want to check my email, why should I waste time finding the mail icon, opening it, etc, when I can have a large scrolling widget that tells me everything? Same thing with music, settings like Wi-Fi, and GPS, and weather. Another thing I like is the Calendar widget. It's so much more convenient to see my upcoming tasks right from the main screen instead of having to deal with it like an iPhone. 2.) The notification tray functions more like a shortcut bar to give easy access to anything from inside any app. The iOS tray does what it's name says, shows notifications. After SBSettings has been available for what, 3 years, Apple still hasn't bothered adding even that most basic quick settings. 3.) The actual multitasking. Why must I go through the pain of double-tapping, then tediously scrolling through pages of all of these tiny icons to find an app I recently used? And to clear the list, I have to hold the buttons down and hit the tiny wiggling X a couple dozen times (assuming it actually bothers to detect all of my taps), In Honeycomb and ICS, I hit a button, and I get this beautiful column of my open apps, as well as a little preview window showing what I was doing last in each app. To clear an app off the list, I simply swipe it sideways and watch it disappear. To scroll to the top of the list, I swipe up exactly once. In other words, anything I need can be done with two quick swipes. 4.) The actual functionality. Last time I checked, I should be able to download files with the browser, use external storage (via flash drive or memory card), send files via Bluetooth, output video via a non-proprietary cable, use Flash websites, etc. on a laptop.
...So then when you go to reinstall all the apps you have to redownload one by one by one by one by one by one...... You can do a full backup of a windows PC onto a drive so you don't have to download and a complete "restore" of it will take maybe a 2 hours including copying over 40gig of "apps". iPad, thats gonna take days. Unless you HAVE A PC TO BACK UP THE APPS TO. I like the way the only arguement you have for the iPad this whole time is "The apps are prettier" right after you say "All windows PC people care about is eyecandy". The rest is you making up excuses as to why what Windows has doesn't count. Just give up already, the only person you are convincing is yourself. I'm done talking to you in this thread, I'm just ignoring whatever you post.
Exactly the point, who writes a 10 page paper on a tablet. AS IN, AN IPAD CAN'T REPLACE A COMPUTER. The W500 or even the Transformer Prime can, because they run REAL computer operating systems, NOT PHONE OPERATING systems PORTED to work on a tablet. Edit; also $100 a year is not a lot? Sorry we aren't all rich off our ass.
Savage; Do you sign up for Android forums and just start posting about how sh*tty it is? That's basically what you are doing here.
It's an Android forum within an iOS forum. Users of iOS feel the need to justify their grievances with their product by bashing and trolling the competition. It gets even funnier because when people do it to them as payback, they have no idea why and they get butt burned. Besides, how can anyone really sit here and argue that iOS is better than Windows? Maybe it's better than Windows on ARM since its so locked down, but no mobile OS beats Windows. That's like saying a 1mm diameter paintbrush with 3 bristles can paint a wall faster than a paint roller that's 6 feet long (if one actually exists, please show me so I can throw money at the screen). I'll never understand why people feel the need to bash OSes. I'm an Android user but that doesn't mean I think iOS and WP7 sucks. iOS is nice, that's why I still use my iPad. WP7 is nice too but the application support sucks. Still, I don't go around bashing other OSes. I'm happy with Android, and I have no problem picking up a Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia 900 FTW). They're just OSes people, I'd hope you all have more serious things to worry about.
I don't understand why people take the time to bash other OSes/Devices because they are not made by a certain "brand" All it really does it show how immature you are and that you can't come to realize that the world does not revolve around you and does not think the same way you do. It shoes how mature one is. I like Apple products but I like Android's software. I don't bash someone because it is made by a certain company. I understand that people have preferences and that should be respected. It is just a waste of time and effort that could be used on something more productive. Savage24x if you wouldn't bash someone in person, don't bash them online because they can't see your face and you are anonymous. OT: I would wait for the Transformer Infinity. Better screen with GPS/Wifi fixes.
Watching Youtube reviews/reading reviews the only real complaint I've been hearing is "Windows 7 isn't great for tablets at all" - well, Windows 8 Consumer Preview is MADE for tablets, and it's free to download legally right now - download the ISO from microsoft while it's up and look at videos to see if you want it : It looks really promising to me! Ill probably be installing Windows 8 on it within a few days of getting it. Here's a vid of it running Win 8 Win 8 boots in about 8 seconds on the tablet. Beat that, Apple. Mine should be here Wednesday, if you want, feel free to ask me some questions or concerns and Ill get back to you with answers once I have mine
